Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić who is visiting in our country have made a press statement following a bilateral meeting.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Azerbaijan described the visit of the Chairwoman of the National Assembly as a token of the high level on which the relations of our states and parliaments are. According to her, this is also an expression of the intention to broaden the co-operation further.
Having voiced contentment with the consistent development of the relations between our countries, which have attained the level of strategic partnership, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova mentioned the day-by-date expansion of our co-operation in the political, economic, trade, energy and humanitarian areas. At the same time, there are sound opportunities for further expansion of the ties across a number of areas.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis remarked that the reciprocal visits of President Ilham Aliyev and President Aleksandar Vučić, their regular meetings and bonds of friendship have a special part in the advancement of our bilateral and multilateral relations. She said that, as pointed out by President Ilham Aliyev, the friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia are of an extremely important nature not only from the viewpoint of the bilateral connexions but also regionally, since they are stimulating a progress of co-operation between the Balkan and Caucasian regions.
The Speaker of the Milli Majlis said that our countries are also co-operating with success under the aegis of international organisations whilst demonstrating mutual support and solidarity.
Having mentioned that the current state of the relations between our parliaments had been reviewed at the meeting with Ana Brnabić, Sahiba Gafarova added that this vector occupies a special position in our countries’ bilateral relationship. The Memorandum of Co-operation of Parliaments signed in 2023 forms the significant foundation for the relationship, stressed the Speaker of the Milli Majlis. It was also noted that the reciprocal visits of the Speakers of Parliament as well as of individual delegations in the past period had contributed to the progress of our relations. It was further said that the parties had considered at the meeting such possible areas as joint activities within international parliamentary organisations, continued expansion of the relations in the future, co-operation between parliamentary committees and exchange of legislative experience.
Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabić expressed gratitude for the invitation to pay this visit and for the generous hospitality extended, stating her satisfaction with the expansion of the ties between our parliaments in line with the development of relations between our states. According to her, the inter-parliamentary relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia are at an excellent level; she expressed confidence that the current visit will contribute to the further deepening of mutual relations.
As Ana Brnabić said, the partnership ties between Azerbaijan and Serbia are rather very close and continue developing. She added that those ties are exemplary. Having emphasised how impatiently she had looked forward to her visit to Azerbaijan, the Chairwoman of Parliament of Serbia stressed the very rapid development of Baku.
Also, pointing out that Azerbaijan is one of the most dependable energy suppliers in the world, she said that Serbia is interested in broadening the energy-sector co-operation with Azerbaijan. According to her, the relations between Azerbaijan and Serbia have been activated during the five years past.
